Golf – Wednesday Apr 14th
Today was damp, chilly day. The weather has been just great for the past several days and the weatherman tells us that those warm, sunshiny days will return tomorrow.
Had to play anyway. You know what I mean, right?
Ed and I made our way to the tee noticing that the course was far from busy. I was feeling good about my swing. Glad to be back on the course.
Recap: Shot 94 – 51 front 43 back. Tale of Two Nines, Jekyll and Hyde, Duffer and Player. Am I schizophrenic?
Front Nine: Struggled to score more than with my swing. Although, I did have a couple of instances where I left the clubface way open at impact pushing the ball waaaayyyy offfffflinnnneeee. Embarrassing.
Back Nine: Started off with a double on the par three 10th, also had double on the par five 12th and the other par three on the back (17th). Bogey on 13 and parred all the others. At one point I had3 pars in row. What got me started on the back was the tee ball on 11, a dogleg left par 4. Told Ed I would hit a long draw leaving me 128 yds (cocky I guess). Nailed it though and with the extra roll I was closer than 128, just 106 left! Gap wedge and 2 putts later I had par.
Putted very well overall. Several one putts, always a good thing.
Drove the ball nicely too. Didn’t hit every fairway but didn’t have any real problems with the drive all day. Did hit in the water, twice of the tee (9 – a bad roll & 13 – pull).
Iron play was a bit spotty at first but then settled in for adequate ball striking. The best iron shot of the day was the uphill approach on 13 after the drop from the watery tee ball. That was crisp with a lot of spin. Hit other good shots, but just didn’t feel as crisp.
Summary: Liked the 43 on the back. The three bad holes (doubles) account for all but one of the stokes over par. That is something to build on. Like so many other times I didn’t do well on the front. Probably from a lack of warming up. What do you think? Any suggestions on how to prevent a bad front nine?
I am getting closer to the goal – breaking 80 – I can feel it coming.
